Hitec's HS5245 is a digital, high output, ball-raced, metal geared mini servo ideally suited to FE boats up to Mono 1, Hydro 1 and ECO classes. Running on six volts, it boasts more torque and speed than a standard servo, yet weighs considerably less and is about 60% the size of a standard unit. "Digital" means this servo is highly accurate and can be programmed using Hitec's HFP10 servo tester and digital programmer to set things like rotation direction and centre/end points.

Hitec HS5245 Servo.
I have three of these excellent little servos, one in my H1 outrigger, one in my big cat and one destined for the outrigger built in this article. The HS5245 controls both the H1 and Big Cat boats with no problems - high speed turns and high rudder loadings are not a problem. The comprehensive accessories kit shipped with the servo includes a rather nice anodised aluminium output arm ideally suited to FE boats.

Obligatory stickers, blue metal arm, some other bits and pieces.
The HS5245 is available online for around 25-30 UK Pounds. I've made the point in the article about radio control systems that you shouldn't economise on servos, from a safety and reliability point of view. The HS5245 is not a cheap servo by any means, but it is very capable and, like most Hitec gear I've owned, reliable and well made.
